Taking advantage of the national event which is the Fête de la Science (from October 2 to 12 in France) SeedLab organized beside Nova Genetic a day of discovery and scientific popularization in our premises. On Friday September 25th, our collaborators of the Novalliance France sites were invited to discover in a playful way the world of plants from a scientific point of view.
41 collaborators of Jardinova, Technisem, Armor Genetic and Nova Genetic thus took turns in small groups all the day to attend one of the three exhibitions installed for the occasion: “Baobab: these mysterious giants”, “The art of the watermelon: from yesterday to today” “The traveling seeds”.
4 playful workshops fascinated the scientists for a day:
- Reveal the researcher in you: discover the work of a watermelon breeder
- Washing-up liquid, salt and DNA: making strawberry DNA appear
- Harib’ADN: understanding DNA bases with candy
- Dive into the plant cell: observe onion and leek cells under the microscope.
Each participant was able to manipulate, observe, analyze and thus better understand concepts such as “DNA”, “RNA”, “epistasis” or other “zoochory and anemochory” to name a few.
This day was very much appreciated by the collaborators and also allowed us to popularize our field of activity to a public that sometimes considers it complex and inaccessible.
